CELEBRATION
OF RECOVERY!
September has been designated as national recovery month, yet
we are not aware of any significant events or activities in
the Louisville area to commemorate or celebrate the miracle
of our recovery.
We are hoping to start now and create a large community celebration
to commemorate and celebrate recovery month for September 2007.
Planning
and organizing a large community festival on this scale takes
a lot of planning, and to make it happen we need several people
to help us plan and organize a large festival like celebration
of recovery to be held next September.
Anyone
interested in helping should attend the meeting of the Louisville
recovery advocacy group which meets the 2nd Thursday of every
month at 5:15 at the Healing Place administrative offices at
1030 West Market Street. (The Healing Place)
Treat
addiction as a mental disorder and not a crime:
There is a grassroots effort underway that is advocating for
treating addiction as a mental disorder and not a crime.
If
grassroots support exists, we will raise awareness and advocate
for changes to laws in Kentucky, for example: drug and alcohol
felons should be given a chance for treatment before prison
as is the case in California.
Also
we will explore changes to Kentucky law that would create a
process that would allow drug and alcohol felony convictions
to be dropped from a person's record after some period of time
in recovery.
Anyone
who has a passion for helping to reform corrections and enforcement
practices needs to show their support for this initiative to
survive.
Anyone
interested and especially those of us who have drug or alcohol
felonies is asked to show their support by attending organizational
meetings that are currently being held the 2nd Thursday of every
month at 5:15 at the Healing Place administrative offices at
1030 West Market Street. (The Healing Place)
